I have seen studies where psychological reactance has been linked with stress and deviance among adolescence, but are there any studies that examine a relationship between reactance and academic achievement (or grades)?
Has there ever been a study that has linked psychological reactance to academic achievment, GPA, etc.?
You should do a search on PsycInfo with those keywords.
Reply:That is affirmative with some research you could find an answer here on the net I'm sure because, If you can think about it, so has someone else.

Are my severely painful menstrual periods and depression linked to PCOS? Please read details.?
I've always had very painful menstruation, with strong abdominal cramps, nausea, severe bloating (I think I look 5 pounds more during my periods and I also feel very bloated), very tender and swollen breasts. I also feel very depressed and irritable just before my period. 2 years ago I did not have a period for 10 weeks and diagnosed for PCOS. Are severe symptoms during menstruation linked to PCOS? Sorry for long question.

Reply:I don't know what PCOS is, but a friend of mine whose periods caused her (and her kids) pain and grief beyond endurance now has a quartely contraceptive injection that has sorted everything out completely. This is in the U.K
Reply:I have PCOS and i really believe the symptoms or effects of it must be different for each individual. I have severe abdominal pain all of the time, and the bloating, and tender swollen breast. and i have terrible mood swings. I can go a year on or off of my period there is no telling. Birth control and metphormin don't even work for me anymore. If you find something that helps you, please let me know. I have had PCOS for over 10 years now. Hope something helps you soon. :)
Reply:It sounds like you could have a few different things going on. Pain like you described is not a typical PCOS symptom. However, very painful menstruation, along with bloating and nausea during menstruation, are common symptoms of endometriosis. It is, unfortunately, possible to have both endometriosis and PCOS. The first link below describes symptoms of endometriosis.
The hormonal imbalances that accompany PCOS have been linked to depression--see the second article below. www.soulcysters.net is also a great site. It's a message board for women with PCOS
Reply:Don't worry about the long question. Those of us who care got to the end of it! My answer is, not in my experience. My understanding is that PCOS is actually partly diagnosed by the lack of pain. If that is your diagnosis you need to have a chat with your Gynaecologist because Osteoparosis is indicated and getting pregnant can be an issue but as a sufferer os PCOS, I really don't recognise your symptoms. Would it be worth getting a second opinion? It sounds more like endometriosis to me.

Congenital night blindness is inherited as a sex-linked recessive.?
If a woman with this disease marries a man who has normal vision, what would be the expected phenotypes of their children with respect to this characeristic?
2. In humans, the condition for normal blood clotting dominates hemophilia. Both genes are sex-linked to the X chromosome. Two parents produced daughters who are all carriers and sons who are all normal. What are the probable genotypes of the parents?
3. A male who has normal blood clotting marries a woman who is a carrier for this condition. What are the chances that if they have a son he will be normal for blood clotting?

How to calculate haplotypes in males with X-linked recessive disorder.?
I am using Arlequin and Chaplin software for generating haploypes, which require genotype data. Since males are hemizygous for X-chromosomes, how their haplotypes will be calculated in X-linked recessive disorder?
How to calculate haplotypes in males with X-linked recessive disorder.?
Of all people, I should not be the first to take on this question, espsecially as I have never worked with your software.
However, I would like to raise this concern. And maybe I will learn something here (nothing wrong with that, right?).
I always associated hemizygosity (not heterozygosity) with non-sequence differences from the + and - strands of a chromosome (like methyation differences). But I can certainly entertain the idea of hemizygous XY chromosomes.
I generally think of heterozygosity as differences beteween non-sex chromosomes (like SNP's).
Since your program most likely deals within the realm of better known heterozygous sequence changes (rather than relatively unconfirmed hemizygous changes), perhaps there is a communicaton gap between the (non-scientific) programmer and you.
Looking forward to other peoples feedback.

Why would 5 alfonso XIII coins be linked together with a chain?
Centavos
5,10,20,40,%26amp;silver peso.
Linked with chain on both sides of each coin...Lining the coins up from largest to smallest (size and amount)
How much do you think they are worth?
Does the chain decrease the value?
Why would 5 alfonso XIII coins be linked together with a chain?
Well Alfonso XIII was the King of Spain up to the Spanish Civil War, he ruled from1886-1931. Coin jewelry is a very common thing and they may have been linked as a bracelet. A lot of coin jewelry is made made of copy coins and not the real item, however I have seen a lot of coin bracelets with real coins that date back to the 1800's. Coins lose a lot of collector value if they are holed. Unless they are a rare date they are only worth the silver value. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know if high bilirubin is linked to Multiple Sclerosis?
I have been very sick for a long time and my doctor told me there is a possibility that I may have MS. I am going to be tested within the next month, but I also just had a blood test that says everything is normal except bilirubin. My expected range is between 0.2-1.2 and I am higher at 2.1. Is MS linked to bilirubin in some way or should I be concerned about something else? Thank you so much in advance!!
Does anyone know if high bilirubin is linked to Multiple Sclerosis?
Well MS is more of a nervous system dysfunction. Blood tests can not even give a definite diagnosis for such only neurological tests or MRI.Bilirubin in the other hand is concerning the liver. You have high bilirubin probably because of some medicines you take for MS. Check your medicines, specially paracetamol and steriods. But dont be bothered too much because if your liver is affected other tests like ALP, A/G ratio will also increase dramatically. Thats the time you should be worried of a liver problem.But for now, you have to be more concern of managing your MS because the parts involved are way more important your brain,spinal cord and nerves. Get well soon...
Reply:I don't think it is. I haven't heard anything about it. I know bilrubin is linked to other things, like i think hearing loss or some kind of liver disorder. In Asian medicine, the Spleen (disfunction) is associated with MS. Don't ask me how. In the Western world Lack of Vitamin D has been linked to MS, lack of sunlight, pesticides, recessive genes, etc. Go to the Canadian MS Society Webpage.
Side Note: There was this guy named the "Sleeping Prophet", his name was Edgar Cayce. Go to his web page or google him. He had things to say about MS, he said it was a lack of gold in the body.
Reply:Your liver needs lots of rest.....take some time off from work and home and just rest for couple of months otherwise you will have a hard time in years to come.

Reply:No, I don't think bilirubin is linked to MS. MS is in your family somewhere if you have it because it is aquired from ancestry, it is not contagious or anything but it goes through genes. It usually skips a generation so you would have to go back to your great grandmother/father or maybe even great great grandparents. And your children shouldn't have it if you do. What are your symptoms?? My mom goes through bad eye sight or even loss of eye sight at times, if it's really bad, she can't feel hot and cold and it comes and goes. Stress brings it on and her whole right side goes numb. Also pregnancy helps it get better too.
And bilirubin is when it gets to high, your skin will start to turn yellow, called jaundice.
Reply:i dont think bilirubin has anything to do with it. When my mum got diagnosed the doctors said she was just unlucky or something and they didnt say anything about getting MS because of the bilirubin. Since then my mum has deterioated and now she can't do anything. Her first symptoms were tripping and bad eyesight but now its fully bad escpecially because shes got 2 other diseases from a young age. Shes really unlucky but i hope you don't get a bad experience from MS.
also doctors told us that the MS isn't genetic. but i think there still is a chance for me and my brother to get it maybe. also most people that get MS are tend to be in warm climates ie: near the equator.
Reply:An elevated bilirubin can be caused by numerous things....
...but the most obvious is if you had suffered a large bruise...
...next obvious is a form of Hepatitis
...or there is something called Gilbert's syndrome that is associated with benign elevation of indirect bilirubin when done fasting.
....You maybe taking a medicine that raises the bilirubin level in your blood.
.....You may have an infection.
....you may have biliary tract disease such as gallstones.
...You may have a blood problem, such as anemia.
...Liver problems can also cause an elevated bilirubin....
...your doctor will need to do additional testing...good luck!!
Reply:It is possible. Bilirubin is a breakdown product of heme (the iron containing rings in myoblobin and hemoglobin, amongst other proteins). Usually bilirubin is elevtated when the liver is stressed, and high circulating bilirubin leads to jaundice. However, some researchers have noted an increase of heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) in response to the attack on the nervous system(s) in MS. This would, as the cells break down, cause an increase in heme breakdown, and bilirubin production.
Some suggest that elevated bilirubin is not necessarily a bad thing - it does have antioxidant properties, and thus may help protect the cell. However, it is usually an indication that something serious is wrong.

Why do I sometimes get pingbacks from sites that never linked to me?
My website The Prize Blog will sometimes get a pinkback or refferal link from a site that has seemingly never linked to my site. Why?
Why do I sometimes get pingbacks from sites that never linked to me?
I get the same sort of thing on my server. It's usually just a new form of spam. You looked through your log file and saw an unknown referral, and you went and looked at THEIR site to see what they said about you. So they got you to come to them. Either to see their viagra ad, or to up their hit counter, or to boost them in their search engine rankings (works well if your linkbacks are visible online since YOU now become a referrer to THEM), or whatever...
Just ignore them.

Can bank account number be changed and linked to same account?
I lost some checks and I'm concerned that someone might write a check or do an automatic ACH payment with the routing number and account number. Are banks usually willing to issue new numbers linked to the same account? Does this cost a lot of money? Thanks so much.
Can bank account number be changed and linked to same account?
It can most definitely be done. Go to your bank and let them know. it costs the amount for a new check order, which you must do from time to time.
Reply:yes
Reply:Yes.
Reply:Why don't you just ask your bank? It would be simpler.

I have 2 LAN cards ,one is linked with internet modem and one with other Pc . i want to know that how how can?
right click the network connection that is hooked up two the internet, select Internet connection sharing and follow the simple wizard, setup your second computer with DHCP.
email if more help needed.
Reply:it is called "internet sharing"
go your intenet card card in the network area -either one
Right click %26gt; advanced properties
Check off the box "allow other network computers to access"
There will be a pull down windows where you select which is the outgoing network card.
Not many people know this setting
Reply:the link between pc's needs to be a crossover cable, not a regular cable. then run the network wizard to set it up.
Reply:I will assume you're using windows.
Is the computer that has internet actually "linked" with the other system? does it "See" the other one and vice versa?
if so, go into the control panel, right click the connection to the modem, and click the "advanced" tab.
Then enable the "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection" box.
You may want to modify other settings in that area, but that's where you should start.
Reply:It would be easier if you bought a cheap 4 port hub and connected each device (each pc and modem) to it.
That way you don't have to always keep the one PC turned on.

How to view newer OS file sharing linked drives on the local network on my old laptop?
how to view newer os file sharing linked drives (windows xp based) on the local network on my old laptop(windows 98 based)?
How to view newer OS file sharing linked drives on the local network on my old laptop?
Make sure that the newer machine's (XP) FIREWALL settings have an EXCEPTION turned ON for "file and printer sharing"... If not, the firewall will block other PC's from accessing!
If using a firewall other than the XP built-in one, you will need to make a similar EXCEPTION there as well!
Reply:also you need to make sure the net bios is installed if the other is a dif o/s....
Reply:each machine needs to be part of the same workgroup and same IP scheme. if you have a broadband router, you can plug both into it and, as long as nothing has been changed in the settings, each will get its own IP address. you can find out what the address of each machine is by going to a command prompt and typing ipconfig.
After that, you need to turn sharing on for the folders you want shared. Right click the folder and go to sharing. Click the radio button that says share this folder. On the laptop, type \\%COMPUTER_NAME% in the address bar of any folder (or internet explorer if you dont have the address bar visible), replacing %COMPUTER_NAME% with the name or ip address of the XP machine. it may ask for a password and if it does, use the one you use on the XP machine when you login. You should then be able to see the folders that are shared on the XP machine. if you have any difficulty with this you can find me on yahoo chat.

Why does my laptop type so slow? Linked to pop ups?
My pc has started to play up typing, i have to type real slow and it misses letters. Ive had problems with pop ups from microbillsys which has just a line of random letters typed on it, making no sense. Could it be linked? Ive ran norton and antispyware, what can i do?
Why does my laptop type so slow? Linked to pop ups?
Download lots of things like XoftSpySE and RougeRemover, Window Washer, AVG Anti-Spyware, Norton Systemworks, and RegCure. My computer has all these tools. Good Luck!
Reply:Why not try Norton 360? It helps with ur laptop preformance and it does many things, like checking for virus, checks for spyware and many more!
I've got it and i also have a laptop, it's cool
maybe it would work for you too

Does someone know how to write an algorithm that appends one list onto another using linked list implement?
The full question (which I couldn't fit) is asking if someone knows how to write an algorithm that appends one list to another while using the linked list implementation.
I understand how to write an algorithm using the linked list implementation, but the one thing I am a little confused about is how to write an algorithm that appends (or adds) one linked list onto another linked list.
Does someone know how to write an algorithm that appends one list onto another using linked list implement?
I won't write your code for you, but if you've got a node with a pointer to the next node in the linked list, or points to null if its at the end, then to join lists a and b, you can:
a.tailnode.next = b
I'm assuming b is the pointer to the head node of list b.

Do you think that this years flu epidemic could be linked to bioterrorism?
The common flu can be linked to many aspects of bioterrorism. The flu this year has spread more rappidly and goes away and comes back, reinfecting as viruses do, but could it be linked to bioterrorism. With the water in many states in crisis such as in NC and areas that the drought has affected could this affect our water? What do you think. do you know about bioterrorism, could this be what happend here?
Do you think that this years flu epidemic could be linked to bioterrorism?
Yes. it is already possible for most countries to make it into a biotech weapon! Even though viruses and bacterium mutate natrually some people influence mutation for research.

Viruses and bacterium mutate the same way that we grew hair during the last ice age. Its a natural process, and the increase in population does not help.
If a bioterrorism unit wanted to infect a nation, they would not use the most commonly contracted virus. They would try something fun, like ebola, e.coli, or amebic dysentary.

Bioterrorism is real, but I think they'll be looking at ways other than the flu virus to bump us off.
Reply:Bioterrorism does not seem like a likely candidate for these kinds of epidemics. More likely they are resulting from our overuse of disinfectants and antibiotics that produce flu and other virus strains that are resistant to treatment.

I don't think this question belongs in math, but I will try to help.
A linked list is a data structure that with nodes that can be declared as objects. If you have a bunch of linked lists, you can treat each as an object and make an array of these. Essentially, you have an array of objects, and the objects are lists.

What are the healthcare foundations that are linked to celebrities?
When I say "linked to celebrities" I mean, if the celebrities actually have the "disease" or a family member that suffered from the disease that they are campaigning for? It seems that the celebrities that are "representing" these healthcare foundations out there are all getting paid...please give me the name of a few that are not and the healthcare foundation they represent. I am trying to find at least 20 different legit healthcare foundations giving back to the patient and not to a pharma or medical company.
Thank you.

How can you tell if someone has linked to your computer?
It seems that whenever I send an e-mail someone is able to read it. How can I tell if someone has linked in? Is it possible to fix this issue? My password hasn't been given out either!!!
How can you tell if someone has linked to your computer?
emails are not secure by default. when it leaves you computer it is on the clear, if you are using some sort of email client you can install PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) to secure your email.
if you are using a browser email like gmail, logto https://gmail.com instead of www.gmail.com, it uses some kind of encryption to hide you data from being clear to everyone.
I don't know if yahoo and msn support https, but I know gmail does.
Reply:First check the options of your email client to see if someone has hacked in and added a secondary and/or forwarding email to your account.
Second, change your password on your email account and on any other accounts that used that password. It would be wise to change all passwords.
If you suspect someone has breached your web based email then the only way to see if there are logs would be to contact the ISP / email providor and have them investigate the issue. If you know for a fact someone has done something criminal you can ask the District Attorney and police to get invlved and they have the power to subpoena the logs from the ISP/email provider.
You can look on your own computer for any third party remote access software such as check add/remove programs for things like pcanywhere, vnc, goto my pc.. and remove them
Right click on My Computer %26gt; programs %26gt; Remote tab %26gt;make sure both remote assistance and remote desktop are unchecked
Check services for anything they could be connecting to you through... such as disable messenger, fast user switching, telnet... don't disable if you arent sure what you're doing.
Make sure your have antivirus / firewall suite installed from a reliable vendor like mcafee...make sure its up to date, properly configured, automatically updating and scanning...
turn on your own logging on your system for events such as logins, etc...
Make sre your computer has a windows login password set, the screensaver is set to ask for password and to go into screensaver after 5 min of inactivity and put a BIOS password on the computer.
good luck.,

Why do I sometimes get pingbacks from sites that never linked to me?
My website The Prize Blog will sometimes get a pinkback or refferal link from a site that has seemingly never linked to my site. Why?
Why do I sometimes get pingbacks from sites that never linked to me?
They are testing your site to see if it shows referrers on one of its pages. If so, you will get a huge number of bogus referrals from porn sites, etc.
Why would they do this? It is because if you show your referrers and they get their site on your page, their PageRank goes up in Google searches. This is sometimes known as "Googlespamming."

Natural resonance of material and the beating heart, are they linked to the start of life.?
Just thinking out loud here.
I understand that all materials have a natural resonance.
This is a specific vibration according to material and shape.
Heart tissue pulses on a regular basis, but changes to meet our activity etc.
But in a petri dish is pulses in a regular manner.
Is this linked to Natural resonance in any way, maybe for carbon.
Single cell things dont have a heart, but do they resonanate or pulse?
and finally is there any link to resonance and DNA.
Natural resonance of material and the beating heart, are they linked to the start of life.?
i dont know what youre getting at with this natural resonance thing, i think youre mixing two ideas that ought not to be mixed. the spontaneity of heartbeats comes from an electrical impulse center on the heart called the sinoatrial node. this node naturally fires impulses about 100 times a minute. the cause for this firing has to do with some concepts known as action potentials and absolute refractory periods.
the cells that normally utilize these action potentials are neurons. the neuron actively expends energy to create a separation of two ions (Na+ and K+) across the cell's membrane. This separation sets up an electrochemical gradient that is sensitive to being 'triggered' and causing those ions to flood back across the membrane to a resting position. if the cell didnt expend more energy to separate the ions again, they would remain in this resting position. this is how nervous messages are conducted, with those depolarization of ions causing a chain of depolarizations all the way down a neuron and eventually (through a slightly different process) to other neurons.
the heart cells in the sinoatrial node undergo a similar process, but they have a slight difference. instead of waiting for some sort of signal to set off the depolarization, they are constantly trying to depolarize due to the nature of the cell membrane (additional ion pores and what not, bit more complex.) problem is, they can only depolarize at a given pace due to the term i used earlier, the absolute refractory period. after a depolarization, it takes time for the cell to return to a point where it has the potential to depolarize again. if the SA node does this as fast as it can, its about 100 beats a minute. your heart only beats about 70 beats a minute due to innervations from the brain that control the rate of depolarization in order to maintain a steady heart rate.
if this is what you meant by natural resonance, then sure, why not.
as for dna, im not sure what youre question means.
Reply:try The ATOM and its electrons.
u will be understanding the meaning of all.
Reply:There are several different kinds of resonance; one, is the resonance where radio waves will resonate with a tune circuit to create oscillations at the natural resonate frequency of that tune circuit. Then there is resonance of other kinds of materials and shapes, things like cavities. This is different than radio frequency resonance. In the case of the resonance frequency of the heart, it is the natural resonance frequency (independent of shape and structure) of the atoms in the chemistry and tissues making up that particular organ, that is in question. In other words, if you were going to take a radio frequency source and tune into the resonant frequency of the heart, you would need to resonate at the natural frequency of the atoms and molecules in the biology of the heart tissue itself, a quantum effect. This would be a very, very high radio frequency.

Using .HTACCESS to embed ad-code above images which are linked directly?
Here's a stumper... hopefully someone can offer some insight for me. I have an image hosting service; by default, the script that I bought tells users to link directly to their uploaded images.
Example:
http://www.website.com/images/Filename.j...
- not -
http://www.website.com/images/Process.ph...
I know how to change the way it works so it would point to an image processing script, but that would not fix the 15,000+ images that are already being directly linked to... so, what I need to know is how I can embed HTML code both above and below an individual image file. So I MUST use .HTACCESS and PHP.
It seems doable, although I don't know enough about .HTACESS to pull it off on my own. I'm 99% there, that is, I have been able to redirect from the actual image to a PHP file which retrieves the requested image - but when I output the HTML code it simply shows a broken image in place of the actual image.
Hope that was all clear enough... anything is appreciated. Thanks!

You can have PHP reprocess the image and display it with a watermark.
The PHP would be something like this; the code below assumes all your files are JPGs, and there will be a querystring variable named file to identify the image to display.
%26lt;?
header('Content-type image/jpeg');
$name = $_GET['file'];
$path = "/path/to/image/directory/";
$img = imagecreatefromjpeg($path . $name);
if(!is_file( $img)) {
die('no such image');
}
$imginfo = getimagesize($img);
$y = $imginfo[0]; //horizontal size
$x= $imginfo[1]; //vertical size
$x -= 50; // offset watermark 50 pixels from right margin
$y -= 20; // offset watermark 20 pixels from bottom
$white = imagecolorallocate($im, 255, 255, 255);
$text = "MyImage Server";
$font = "arial.ttf"; // font to use for watermark; must be a font on the Web server
imagettftext($img, 20, 0, $x, $y, $white, $font, $text); //stamp watermark
imagejpeg($img);
imagedestroy($img);

How can I change the settings in Excel to open an Excel file that is linked in a formula in the file I'm using
I have spreadsheets at work that are all linked together with formulas, linking numbers in one file to other files. My manager can open up these linked files to look at them by just double clicking on the cell with the linked file in it. I, on the other hand, have to go searching thru the numerous folders we have to find the file. Does anyone know how I can change the settings so that I can just double click on the file name to open it up? (I'm using Excel 2000, if that makes a difference)
How can I change the settings in Excel to open an Excel file that is linked in a formula in the file I'm using
You can use HYPERLINK as function (And not Insert %26gt; Hyperlink)
It is made to act like hyperlink, like this
If your cell (With full filename) is D4, then in F5 paste this
=HYPERLINK(D4, D4)
from now on, clicking this cell will open that file (Whatever its type)
Yes, I am the VBAXLMan here
Reply:Just select a formula
Go to Tools
Formula Auditing
Select "Trace dependents" or "trace precedents" (you' ll understand these terms if you are not already familiar with)
Now you will see an arrow pointing to your cell (%26amp; with a box)
Double click on that arrow line. Then it will show you which cells of other workbooks and worksheets are linked to that formula .
Simply double click the sheet you want to open.
Thats all.
(Remember to select a cell which has references to other workbooks or worksheets. If you select a cell which has references to cells only within that worksheet, those links will be shown in blue lines)

Do you have an ING Savings account linked to a Bremer Bank checking account?
Do you have any problems with them being linked? Do you incur charges by transferring money to or from your Bremer checking account? The person I talked to at Bremer was clueless and I just need some help.
Do you have an ING Savings account linked to a Bremer Bank checking account?
No, I'm in the UK so I don't have a Bremer account. But I do have an ING account, and they don't charge for transfers to other accounts, so the costs are with Bremer. Change your bank.

3-point test crosses in genetics x-linked?
we are doing a cross in which an F1 female and F1 male are crossed to produce.
p + bt -9 - double cross over
+ w + - 6 - double cross over
p w Bt- 90 - single cross over
+ + + - 95 - single cross over

p w + - 376 - parental types
these are only male offspring. The question asked you to construct a linkage map (all traits are recessive and X-linked)
you are missing the other 2 single crossovers ( p + + and + w bt)
p is the center on the map...
map units from white eyes (located at 1.5 MU) to p is 20 MU
The question is if you don't have the other S.C.O how do you determine the distance from p to bt???
3-point test crosses in genetics x-linked?
Assuming no interference, then p(double) should be equal to p(single 1) x p(single2), so this would mean that p(single2) =p(double)/p(single 1). However, we don't have a direct way of measuring these since it requires knowing the total number of offspring. This will be 1000 (observed) + missing singles(N). As a rough estimate it will be .015/.185=.081. More precisely, the value is N/(100+N)= (15/(100+N))/(185/(1000+N))
However: if the distance w--p is given as 18.5 (20-1.5) and the calculated value 185/1000 gives the same, then it would seem that there are *no* other singles, implying a map distance of zero. But, it that is true, then you would not expect any double cross overs either.
Bottom line: there is something odd about the cross, or about the presented data. it can't all be right.
Reply:I believe you must ask your extra y chromosome.

Does growth hormone use the G protein linked mechanism to affect cells or does it use direct gene activation?
It's a cholesterol steroid hormone, right? So it uses direct gene activation? Or does it use G protein linked mechanism?
Does growth hormone use the G protein linked mechanism to affect cells or does it use direct gene activation?
The answer is neither. Growth hormone receptor is a cell surface receptor (like GPCRs), but it is not a 7 TM receptor and does not signal through G proteins. Instead, it activates a JAK-STAT kinase cascade that then translocates to the nucleus and activates gene expression.
So, while you are right that steroid hormone receptors often directly activate transcription, GH is a peptide, and goes through a kinase pathway.

Could breast tumor and thyroid tumor be linked to one another?
About 3 weeks ago, my ob. had found a tumor in my breast and one on my thyroid. (the reason she checked my thyroid was because I told her I was having difficulty swallowing). I have to see a different doctor on the 19th of April about my thyroid tumor. Of course I am scared that one or both the tumors are cancer because I have a family history of cancer running in the family, like throat cancer for instance. My concern is if the 2 tumors could be linked? Has anyone heard of having a tumor in the throat and breast or anything similar? I've tried doing research on this but could not find anything related. I know that cancer can spread but is this ironic or not? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.
Could breast tumor and thyroid tumor be linked to one another?
They are probably not related. I have had a 'goiter' on my throat for years from my thyroid. It doesn't cause me any problems though--other visual.
They just found a lump in breast and I'm having a biopsy on Wednesday and no one has said anything to me about the two being at all related.
I'd chalk it up to coincidence. Good luck with both of those though!
Reply:Thyroid and breast tissue are both similar types of tissue.
If you are calling them tumors it sounds like you already know they are cancerous. But from everything else you say it sounds like they are masses and it's not yet known whether they are cancerous or not.
You may just have a goiter (enlarged thyroid), and not a thyroid tumor.
Good luck
Reply:Hey! I've been dealing with Papillary Thyroid cancer for 2 years now. I had a tumor on my thyroid gland, that's how they discovered it. Many people have tumors or cysts on their thyroid gland without it turning out to be cancerous. Just get them both tested and then learn all you can! Now is not the time to worry. Just be smart!! (Oh, and I always have growths in my breasts and they've never been cancerous!)

Why are males more affected by sex-linked traits?
Why are males affected by sex-linked traits than females? I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure is had to do with girls having 2 X chromosomes so if the guys X chromosome has some disorder then for sure they have it but....I just want to be sure... Thanks, if you answer.
Why are males more affected by sex-linked traits?
Yes, you are correct.
Sex-linked traits are genes that are encoded on the X chromosome. For example, color-blindness is associated with the X chromosome. A female is not likely to exhibit color-blindness because she has two X chromosomes. If one X chromosome carries the bad gene, the other X chromosome most likely carries the normal version of the gene.
Males, on the other hand, only have one X chromosome. The Y chromosome does not contain a normal gene that deals with color-blindness. So, if a male has a defective X chromosome, he automatically has the disease because there is not another X chromosome with the normal version of the gene.
Reply:Yes, you are on the right track. See below for more details.

How many believe that snow-burn is linked to people with light sensitive eyes?
How many believe that snow-burn is linked to people with light sensitive eyes? If so why do you feel that way; and if not why do you feel that way?
How many believe that snow-burn is linked to people with light sensitive eyes?
Photophobia is a symptom of excessive sensitivity to light and the aversion to sunlight or well-lit places. In medical terms it is not fear, but an experience of discomfort or pain to the eyes due to light exposure.
Light sensitivity is usually due to too much light entering the eye, which causes over stimulation of the photoreceptors in the retina and subsequent excessive electric impulses to the optic nerve. This leads to a reflex aversion to light, and discomfort or pain. Too much light can enter the eye if it is damaged, such as with corneal abrasion and retinal damage, or if a pupil(s) is unable to normally constrict (seen with damage to the oculomotor nerve).
Patients with photophobia will avert their eyes from direct light (sunlight and room lights), or may seek the shelter of a dark room or wear sunglasses.
Photophobia is also a behavior demonstrated by insects or other animals which seek to stay out of the light.

In folklore and mythology, many creatures suffer from photophobia - or heliophobia, a specific fear of sunlight.
The Norse troll is said to either turn to stone or become trapped above ground when the sun rises.
According to Paracelsus, gnomes explode when they go above ground[citation needed]. As C.S. Lewis puts it, "if he thrust out his face…[it] would break into splinters, bursting as a man would burst in interstellar space." - though in fact, humans exposed to the vacuum of space experience no such spectacular effect.
In English folklore, goblins are said to be unable to bear light.
In the story of Hercules, his twelfth labour was to capture Cerberus. In one version of this story he had only to lead Ceberus to daylight.
In Lithuanian and some other Eastern European folklore, devil is said to go back to hell whenever the sun rises.
[edit] In fiction
In J.R.R. Tolkien's works, goblins are said to get wobbly legs and become giddy in the head when outside, while trolls turn to stone.
In Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, the zombies from the movie Zombies in the Snow are forced to retreat during daylit hours.
In the films Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch, both the Mogwai and Gremlins are incredibly sensitive to bright light; direct sunlight on their skin will kill them in a matter of seconds.
It is common tradition in literature that vampires burn and/or explode when exposed to light, which was first introduced in the 1922 German film Nosferatu. Contrary to popular thought, Bram Stoker's Dracula did not originate this convention.
In the films 'Blade', 'Blade 2' and 'Blade 3', Wesley Snipes plays a half vampire half human, known as 'The Daywalker', i.e. a vampire that can walk in the light without fear of burning/exploding.
In the animated TV series Gargoyles, the title creatures are purely nocturnal, and turn to stone during daylight hours.
A character from the anime Ouran High School Host Club, Umehito Nekozawa, avoids light, and wears a hood all the time to protect himself from it. When exposed to light for a short time, he collapses, but he eventually gets over it. Ironically his little sister, Kirimi, is afraid of darkness.
prot (lower-case is proper) from the planet K-PAX (upper case is proper), wears dark glasses while on our planet because he can see ultraviolet light and would be blind without them.
In the films Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick, the antihero protagonist, Richard B. Riddick is photophobic as a result of medical alterations to his eyes which give him superhuman night vision, but forces him to wear welding goggles in the light.

Can you have a cable linksys box linked to another linksystem box to have more computers on a network?
You have your modem, then a cable over to the ethernet cable box, then 3 computers linked to it and the remander slot to have a cable run from tha to another linksys cable box and have 3 or 4 more computers on it
Can you have a cable linksys box linked to another linksystem box to have more computers on a network?
You just need a small switch. You have explained it correctly. connect the switch to one of the four ports on your router and you can connect more computers.
You don't have to buy a Linksys. You can buy whatever brand you want. They are all the same essentially.
Reply:IT might work as long as you don't plug anything into the Internet / WAN port...you'll have to uplink one of the grouped 4 ports...
And you need to make sure there is no IP or DHCP configured on the second Linksys router, or you'll have conflicts out the kazoo.
A cheap hub at Wal-mart would be a much better choice.

Was art critic/historian Clement Greenberg ever linked with the CIA's CCF?
My question is for art historians/those familiar with Clement Greenberg.
Now I have my personal bias. i hate the man. Looking at his stance on art interpretations, and in particular his steadfast denouncing of anything which suggested that artworks might reflect the sociopolitical conditions of their time and the social background of their artists, has made me wonder something...
I know that around his time the CIA was funding the Center for Cultural Freedom, a project designed to (among other things) appeal to Soviet artists by showing them how much artistic freedom US artists have. Greenberg's stance, to me, seems right up the CIA's alley. My question is this...does anyone know whether or not he was allied with CIA-linked groups? Did he receive CCF funding? Did he work with them? Every time I read and reread his writings I can't help but wonder if he was CCF-affiliated. Hopefully someone knows the answer.
Was art critic/historian Clement Greenberg ever linked with the CIA's CCF?
the only things i could find made no mention of any connection with the ccf. You might want to do some deeper research. Hey may though might have known about the ccf and felt supportive towrd them
Now I have my personal bias. i hate the man.

How do you eliminate line around a linked image in Dreamweaver? or what code is inserted and where?
When a graphic is linked within the website and then clicked on a blue line appears around the graphic. How do get rid of this? What code can I add and where on the webpage? I'm using Dreamweaver MX 2004. Thanks!
How do you eliminate line around a linked image in Dreamweaver? or what code is inserted and where?
The answer is this: add the attribute border="0" to the image tag. That will remove the border around the image.

How is acid rain and global warming linked?
how is acid rain and global warming linked? need answers asap thanks ^^
How is acid rain and global warming linked?
Acid rain is due to the burning of fossil fuels which contribute sulfuric acid H2SO4 and nitric acid into the environment which mix with the atmosphere and are deposited as acid rain. The burning of fossil fuels also forms CO2 which is the primary cause of global warming.

Java programming!!! I need an example code for a doubly-linked list of arrays...?
I'm trying to write a linked list. Each node is an array of 10 integers. I want to be able to add in integers, remove integers, and have a count of how many integers are in each array and how many nodes there are in my list.
Any link that has an example that relates to what I'm trying to write would be very much appreciated.
Java programming!!! I need an example code for a doubly-linked list of arrays...?
Is it for school? Because if you need it in a real-world application, Java already provides all the data structures you need. In your case, java.util.LinkedList and a trivial int[10] (or Integer[10] if you plan to allow null values).

How can i do a list Doubly linked using Borland C++?
Is this information that I am a student of systems, but fails to write the program with the information you gave me my teacher, but I would like to know is, furthermore, not only doubly linked if possible also to be circulate.
How can i do a list Doubly linked using Borland C++?
If you study what a doubly-linked list is (and know C), the answer is apparent. The description is almost the program. An item consists of a pointer (aha!) to the previous item, the item's data and a pointer (another one) to the next item. The first item's previous pointer points to null, as does the last item's next pointer. The data is whatever the data is - an integer, a structure of different data elements, even another list.
Moving elements around the list is as simple as changing their previous and next pointers (and the previous and next pointers of 4 other elements).

A dominat trait that is not sex-linked?
tim and christine have freckles (a dominant trait that is not sex-linked), but their son michael does not. show with a punnet square how this is possible. tim and christine are expecting a baby. what is the probability of freckles in that child?
A dominat trait that is not sex-linked?
Since freckles are a dominant trait, individuals that are heterozygous for the gene will have freckels. If both parents are heterozygous for the trait, then 1/4 of their children will have the recessive phenotype (i.e. no freckles).
Here's my best attempt at typing a punnet square:
.....F..| f
F |FF|Ff
f |Ff..|ff
Basically, if F is the gene for freckles, and f is the gene for no freckles, the FF and Ff individuals have freckles and ff do not (since F is dominant to f). If the parents are both Ff then 1/4 of their offspring will be FF, 1/2 will be Ff, and 1/4 will be ff. That means that 1/4 of their children will have the recessive (no freckles) phenotype. The remaining 3/4 will have freckles. So for any one child, there's a 3/4 chance they will have freckles.
Reply:3 out of 4
Reply:If freckles are a dominant trait and their son isn't have freckles, then both Tim and Christine must have one dominant and one recessive gene for this trait (Ff). Michael must be an ff since he doesn't have freckles. The possible outcomes are FF, Ff, Ff, and ff. In the first three combos result in a child with freckles; the last does not. Therefore the probability of a child with freckes is 75%.

i have made two forms in access ... linked together ... i need to enter data in both and save ... if i save the first form using save button option it does not let me go to second and gives an error and if i save the data in second the data in first doesnot get stored help needed plsss.......
I have made two forms in access ... linked together ... i need to enter data in both and save ... help me?
Hard to give a definitive answer without seeing the forms.
One thing you might try is to use a Command Button (or appropriate event of another control) to save your data. Of course, you will have to know how to write the code behind the button (or other control).
That's the way I would do it.
I hope this helps.

Two Battalion's that have been Linked together?
Dear Sir
When they become individual Battalions again can their
Bn Association banner carry the campaingns they were involved in while linked. British Army
Sincerely
O Brockenhuus - Schack
Two Battalion's that have been Linked together?
When two battalions or regiments amalgamate they are presented with new colours by the honorary colonel and the battle honours are amalgamated too with a maximum of 44 (I think) allowed to be emblazoned on the colours. Should they be re-instituted as separate entities at a later time the battle honours would be restored to each unit and new colours presented. In that case any shared battle honours would be displayed on both colours.
In the case of associations: the official OCA will display the insignia and banner of the new formation as will individual association branches but the branches may also display insignia for the amalgamated units. OCA members will wear the tie for the unit they served in unless they are employed by the association in which case they wear the tie for the new unit.
Reply:Banner of both battalions can be displayed simutaneously by the combined unit.

Why are beer and sports closely linked and related???
Nearly everyone drinks beer while watching sports. It is avaliable at pretty much all sporting events and everywhere you look people are drinking it. It is hard to imagine going to a game where beer is not everywhere. Furthermore when people are not watching games at the venue or at home they are watching them at beer filled sports bars. Also most beer ads relate to sports and are clearly targeted at sports fans. In our culture spectator sports and beer clearly go together to the point where you cant have one without the other. Why is this? Why are beer and specator sports so closely related? Why is it that in our world wherever their is beer their is sport and vise versa? If anyone would be able to explain this it would be you the beer guzzling sports fans...

Well, when I go to a restaurant or bar, I find myself watching sports that I would never imagine myself watching. I don't watch sports in the first place. I find that it's a way to just kill time and get relaxed. Most people loosen up as they drink beer, and to be able to watch bull riding or UFC is just a fun time haha.
As for actual sporting events, I'm not entirely sure why. Even the racetrack that I used to work at had a beer tent set up. And the hockey banquet being held at the place that I co-op at is having a beer tent as well. They just go hand in hand to the point that they are automatically associated with one another.
I find that you watch sports with friends, and drink beer with friends, and so why not do both at the same time?
Like I said, I don't really watch any sports, yet I was right into UFC tonight at Crabby Joe's. It's the atmosphere too, with the whole bar cheering and whatnot.
It's just a good time, people loosen up.

This is a Data Structure question ( linked lists) can anyone help?
What is the output of these statements, using your sequence ADT implemented as a linked list with Item defined as integer:
sequence x;
sequence y;
x.insert(41); // Inserts 41 into the sequence x
x.insert(42); // Inserts 42, so that x is now 42, 41 with cursor at front
y = x;
x.attach(43); // Attaches 43 so that x is now 42, 43, 41 with cursor at 43
y.advance( );
cout %26lt;%26lt; "y size is " %26lt;%26lt; y.size( );
cout %26lt;%26lt; " and y current item is " %26lt;%26lt; y.current( ) %26lt;%26lt; endl;
A. y size is 2 and y current item is 41.
B. y size is 2 and y current item is 43.
C. y size is 3 and y current item is 41.
D. y size is 3 and y current item is 43.
E. None of the above.

I don't have your sequence ADT implemented as a linked list, but if I were to take an educated guess, C would have to be the answer.

This is a Data Structure question ( linked lists) can anyone help?
I don't have your sequence ADT implemented as a linked list, but if I were to take an educated guess, C would have to be the answer.

Are Imperialism, Capitalism, Racism, Sexism & Christianity Linked?
Are Imperialism, Capitalism, Racism, Sexism %26amp; Christianity Linked?
Are Imperialism, Capitalism, Racism, Sexism %26amp; Christianity Linked?
Do you realize you've asked a question with twenty parts to it %26lt;g%26gt;?
The easiest to answer is "yes" to sexism as a precondition for imperialism. Empire-building requires a culture that approves of conquests. As with "sexual conquests", military conquering is an almost totally male activity. (There are a handful of historical exceptions like Cartimandua.)
But sexism can exist without imperialism. Look at some present-day Muslim societies and many tribal cultures.
Christianity and imperialism; capitalism and imperialism - no, not intrinsically. Genghis Khan built a very big empire without any interaction with either Christianity or capitalism. So did the early Muslims in the 600s and 700s AD. So did the Romans, indeed for three centuries the Roman emperors rather vigorously opposed Chritianity.
Christianity and capitalism -- no relationship in either direction. Christianity flourished for 15-18 centuries before cpitalism got going, and capitalism is flourishing now alongside the sharp decline in Christianity this past 100 years.
Racism and imperialism -- racism helps, because it's easier to want to impose your values on other people if you hold them as inferior. But, again, the Romans and Genghis Khan, Cyrus the Great and Alexander of Macedon were all successful imperialists without much evidence that they were racists.
Capitalism and racism -- I'd say actually a negative connection. Capitalism encourages people to go out and trade across borders and invest in countries with strange foreign customs. Capitalism rewards well-calculated adventure and risk-taking. It rewards the removal of barriers to trade (as with the EU). Capitalism has been one of the influences breaking down racism in the West in the past sixty years.
Same applies to capitalism and sexism, only less effectively so far. Capitalism is intrinsically meritocratic, and penalises choices made on the basis of prejudice.
Sexism and racism? De facto the link seems strong, though I don't see any intrinsic link -- a culture could easily have either without the other logically. Emotionally there may well be a link via the common factor of heirarchical patriarchal social structure as a stimulant to both sexism and racism (as well as a necessary condition for imperialism).
Christianity and racism? Racism is contrary to the teachings of Christ and of St. Paul (e.g. the parable of the Good Samaritan). Somehow they bent Christianity to accommodate racism, but it doesn't come naturally.
Christianity and sexism? You bet. Two male gods and a sexless ghost to make up their 3-part godhead. Male power structures from the word go, with their exclusively male priesthood. We in Britain, for example, had a Supreme Goddess before the Christians overturned her. But you CAN have sexism without Christianity.
Reply:No Why would most types of Christianity be racist %26amp; sexist The Catholic church is sexist but there are women working within the church to get this changed Basically Believe what you want
Reply:All cultures share the desire to make their world better and safer -- for themselves and their children. Unfortunately, all cultures have an innate belief that their way is the best way, which leads to imperialism and zenophobia (which is really what sexism and racism are).
Reply:For sure, I think you are onto something here....we should all become Muslims and kill all the infidels.

Respected Sir
As in the Unit Linked Products ,there is a query relating to withdrawl.
If a cusomer does not pay the minimum compulsory premium,then the policy will be lapsed.But can he withdraw the NAV after the lockin period since this is his own money?

Better enquire with the insurance company or still better go through the fine print once again and find out if there is any way out.

Why are beer and sports closely linked and related???
Why are beer and sports closely linked and related???
It's not hard to figure out is it? Because men like beer, and they also like sports. Beer + sports = good combination for most men.

How to add a fewsome of linked web pages in my blog......?
my blog address is "http://praveenadsense.blogspot.com". I Wish to add few(5) HTML Webpages containing forms linked in sequence..........
How is it possible................
How to add a fewsome of linked web pages in my blog......?
just insert the URL you would be linking in the word "URL" in the example below.
The Anchor Tag and the Href Attribute
HTML uses the %26lt;a%26gt; (anchor) tag to create a link to another document.
An anchor can point to any resource on the Web: an HTML page, an image, a sound file, a movie, etc.
The syntax of creating an anchor:
%26lt;a href="url"%26gt;Text to be displayed%26lt;/a%26gt;
The %26lt;a%26gt; tag is used to create an anchor to link from, the href attribute is used to address the document to link to, and the words between the open and close of the anchor tag will be displayed as a hyperlink.
MY EXAMPLE:
%26lt;a href="answer.yahoo.com" target="_blank"%26gt;YAHOO ANSWERS%26lt;/a%26gt;
CHEERS!

Can mold in my house be linked to stomach infections?
Three people in my house have come down with similar stomach infections. I was just wondering if this could be linked to mold in our house, which I am fairly confident we have.
Can mold in my house be linked to stomach infections?
No, mold causes allergy like symptoms of sneezing; coughing; watery eyes; congestion; headaches; sinus problems; etc.
They probably have a stomach virus that they caught from one another.
Wash hands often; don;t share drinks, utensils, no touching toothbrushes,etc.
Keep kitchen %26amp; bathroom especially clean.

DO YOU THiNK THE MURDERS WERE LINKED???
Do you guys think that the murders of the auburn student and the north carolina student are linked? They were only a day apart, which would have gave the killer/killers enough time to drive from alabama to north carolina. Also on another point I just think its kinda strange that both girls are from Georgia. One was even from Athens, which is like 10 miles from where I live.
DO YOU THiNK THE MURDERS WERE LINKED???
I think their linked!!!
Reply:also the dean in N.C. that was recently found shot
yes i have thought a single thread ties theses killings together it may even be someone they all knew, i don't think this is a serial killer i think this is more personal.....don't worry
