How "phoniness" might be linked from the film to the novel.
How was the movie "conspiracy theory" linked to J.D. Salingers "Catcher in they Rye?
I can help a little bit but if you read the book (which is awesome) and watch the movie you'll see for yourself. Both main characters share a lot in common. They both feel a bit alienated in society, alone, and lost. They both represent a cause for finding their purpose in life, and helping others at any cost, no matter how imperfect their own lives really are. The "phonies" in Holden's eyes represent the same things you and I could find today in our society: the people who you though were your "friends", but aren't, the fake people in your life, teachers and other adults that don't seem to really care. He made a funny point in the book that on the day that parents come to the private school, "parent day", the staff makes sure everything is in tip top condition, and they serve a fancy meal, and everything looks great. On regular days, its all crap. Hope I helped a little.
Reply:It was the book that all convicted assassins had in possesssion. I don't know about the phoniness, it's been 10 years since I read The Catcher in the Rye.
