New research was finally conducted to find out the affects of sex ed on teen sexual activity. What did they find out from 2,000 teens?
"Male teens who received sex education in school were 71 percent less likely — and similarly educated female teens were 59 percent less likely — to have sexual intercourse before age 15."
Sex Education Linked To Delayed Teen Intercourse:

What were some of the myths teens had about sex?
"Some still believe you can’t get pregnant if you’re standing up or doing it for the first time or if your boyfriend is drinking a lot of Mountain Dew."
Can it be true? Sex Education Linked to Delay in Teens having Sex? Why or why not?
I think it could be true and it is even logical if you think about it. Usually knowledge leads to good decisions and ignorance leads to bad decisions. Nothing revolutionary about that concept. Only the abstinence only fanatics seem to believe ignorance is the way to go.
Don't forget a liberal country like the Netherlands has the lowest teen pregnancy rate in the world.
Abstinence only is not only illogical as illustrated above but also Utopian. I think you need policies that work in the real world
Reply:Thank you. I liked the knowledge is power statement. Very true Report It
Reply:wow, i knew many teens thought they couldnt get pregnant the 1st time but didn't realize the myth about standing up or drinking mt. dew!
we are in serious need of frank discussions with our teens, esp. living in today's hypersexualized society.
thanks for sharing the article.
Reply:could be very true...think of this...right now in USA society we have the most populated obese children ...... law makers made PE not required in schools so many schools cut it out....well if we had PE required in schools maybe we wouldnt have this problem.........hmmmmmmmmmmmm
Reply:I believe it. Knowledge is power.
I've seen some pretty interesting myths on sex on Yahoo! Answers like if the girl is on top she can't get pregnant, you can tell someone has an std just by looking at them, douching afterwards will prevent pregnancy, pulling out will prevent pregnancy, etc. Can't be that far off from what some teens (and adults) think.
Reply:I am honestly stunned by the lack of knowledge people have about their bodies. That people still believe crap like that in this day and age is amazing. I had the most basic form of sex ed and even I knew better than that. Parents need to have a open frank discussion with their kids about sex. People need to realize that just because you are educated it isn't true that you will run off and have sex. And if you did, you will at least be informed and less likely to believe crap.
