LUCK, where it comes from? Is it hidden in some part of body, relationships linked with stars, stones or deeds.

Luck, where it comes from? Some Gurus of India believe it is associated with time, linked with planet, some believe wearing of certain stones, some attribute towards worshiping God, some believe in good deeds build up your credit somehow; when you use, it provides the positive source of energy and splashes to give you positive results, then people say 'you are lucky'. Is it true? Can any one truly advise me 'how to become lucky'? What are the sources of becoming LUCKY? Is it only through any religion, any particular deeds like giving charity, feed the poor, looking after the aged, injured %26amp; handicap? Can you attract luck by wearing minerals/stones or is it you may become lucky by wearing clean expensive clothes. I am told Shah Jehan was having a marble necklace in his hand all the time called 'tasbeeh' while building Taj Mahal, once he lost it, he was arrested by his son. Does it come through rubbing your hands with certain stones or wearing it as necklace? Pl advise or any books on it

LUCK, where it comes from? Is it hidden in some part of body, relationships linked with stars, stones or deeds.
Why did you just buy a lottery ticket? Really though, we all make our all type of luck good, bad and indifferent. Some claim of certain tailsman, ritual, etc will work - I think it all a matter of your own suggestiabilty. When we put out good thoughts and good deeds they will come back to us in a positive way. Maybe you'll never win a big amount of money (like most of us who buy tickets) but, count your blessings - family, friends, home, work - that is the best luck of all.
Reply:i was also sometimes confused about luck but i am now very much clear on it. according to my own dictionary, luck means a meaningless word created by the people who have already blown out the lamp of hard work from their life and teach others to get success. if you really want to be lucky then don't try to search it even by mistake.

If something happens to some people they see it as bad luck, a 'lucky person' sees it as another opportunity, and realizes how it can be used for future benefit.

Any good book on positive thinking can give you the methods to become lucky.

A couple who are both phenotypically normal have a child who expresses a sex-linked recessive trait.?

A couple who are both phenotypically normal have a child who expresses a sex-linked recessive trait. Which of the following represents this child's genotype? Let the trait T designate dominant and t be designate recessive.

A. Tt

B. tt

C. Xt Xt

D. XtY

E. Both C and D could be correct.

A couple who are both phenotypically normal have a child who expresses a sex-linked recessive trait.?
The answer is D because dad is hemizygous dominant and mom is heterozygous since both are normal. The kid got the Xt from mom and Y from dad. The kid couldn't get the bad gene from dad because if dad had it to give, then dad wouldn't be normal.
Reply:... Report It

Reply:D
Reply:b is correct answer
Reply:The answer is actually D, not E.

If Xt Xt were correct, then the Father must be Xt Y, which is phenotypically abnormal.
Reply:She's right, the answer's E
Reply:e
Reply:Definitely E
Reply:D. If it were C, The father would have to be XtY, which would make his phenotype abnormal.

ie. The father has to be XTY to be normal, and if the XT gene were passed on, the child would e phenotypically normal too.

The mother must be XTXt.

If i sell an item on ebay, will the payment be sent to the linked paypal account to my ebay account?

If, so. How do i check which paypal account is linked to my ebay account?

If i sell an item on ebay, will the payment be sent to the linked paypal account to my ebay account?
Hello,

Normally when you activate your paypal account, you provide your ebay user name. Keep in mind that paypal is owned by ebay.

Just make sure you have your correct email address on file with Paypal.

Hope that helps
Reply:Seems to me you should have only one paypal account (why do you need two?). The one should be connected either to your checking account or your Visa account. If you have a business then you should have the business type paypal account. All your account info should be verified with paypal before you try to use it.

Now to answer your question. When you sell an item on ebay you give people a choice of how they can pay you. If you have reflected that they can only use paypal then when they win they are sent a notice by ebay that they have won and they are to pay you. Once you know they have won you can contact them and tell them the exact amount they owe you, and remind them to send to you via paypal (which email addy to use). If you have any questions about your account you can get into paypal and into the help and ask your question, otherwise get their phone number off of their website and phone them (which would probably be better to do).

If you are a business then be sure to watch the account into which their money will be placed because sometimes three months later there may be a chargeback. There are also sheiksters who pay for the item then immediately turn around and cancel it after you've sent the items, so they in essence get the item for free. Sometimes they give bad addresses or someone elses address and then you get stuck. So keep on the ball about watching that money in your paypal account.

If I'm not mistaken the money will come into paypal but you have to go into paypal and make sure it's there and then put it into the checking or Visa account you want. But you can confirm that when you talk with paypal on the phone.
Reply:Check your ebay profile - whatever your e-mail address is in your eBay profile SHOULD be the paypal account that it's linked to - alternately, in Paypal, there may be a link for "ebay ID' in preferences..
Reply:both the answers are correct i sell on ebay as well check and see didnt you have to use your bank to make sure it worked/ once the money is been paid you have to send it to your bank it will not go there automaticly...

In humans, cystic fibrosis is caused by a recessive gene that is not sex-linked. ......?

In humans, cystic fibrosis is caused by a recessive gene that is not sex-linked. A man and a woman, neither of whom has cystic fibrosis, have two children with the disease. What is the probability that their third child will have the disease?

In humans, cystic fibrosis is caused by a recessive gene that is not sex-linked. ......?
If each parent is a carrier, there is a 1/4 or 25% chance that their offspring will have the disease. You have to have both the recessive genes to show the trait, 50% of their children will be carriers and the other 25% wouldn't have the gene at all.

CF isn't an autoimmune disease

If N is the same thing as normal, and c is the gene that represents cystic fibrosis and each parents gives one of each gene, there are 4 possibilities.

Nc x Nc = NN, cN, cN, cc

That's the equation :)

So each time they have a child, the probability is all the same. If this world was statistically perfet, and they had 4 children, one would have the disease, 2 would be carriers (and not be sick), and 1 would not even be a carrier.

CF is a recessive gene, the baby needs to get a copy of the gene from both mum and dad before it gets it. The previous children have no impact on future pregnancies.
Reply:idk because i am not smart at human science
Reply:Id say 25 to 50 percent. Not sure about the probability equation. Although, id lean towards 1 in 4, since CF affects 25,000 newborns a year. The grandparents don't have a direct influence on the offspring's, but they give the parents the genes, so they play a major role in the acquisition of CF. That's why CF is coined a genetic autoimmune disease. See a genetic consular.
Reply:My son has CF and Zini is right, previous children have no impact on future pregnancies. It will be a 25% chance with every child.

The best way I found to explain it is you don't have the same sperm and egg every time you concieve or try to. It is a completely new "pool" of genetics.

"Here is the question i was given: A man with hemophilia (a recessive, sex-linked condition)has a daughter who is of a normal phenotype. She marries a man who is normal for the trait. What is the probability that a daughter of this mating will be a hemophiliac?Or a son who is hemophiliac? If they have 4 sons, what is the probability that all 4 will be born with hemophilia? i do not understand how to get the probability."

"Here is the question i was given: A man with hemophilia (a recessive, sex-linked condition)has a daughter who
well I guess it is linked to the X cromosone. then you can calculate from there.

if they get a daugther (she is XX) then she has a 50% risk to be a carrier like her mother, but not ill.

If they get a son (he would be XY) then he would have a 50% risk to get the condition.

This is because the farther ,who is 50% of the genetic material, have no condition, a man cannot have an recessive sex-linked condition without being effected.

The mother, who is the other 50% is carrying the condition in one of her X cromosones, so there is a 50-50 chance/risk of their children to get the condition.

so each son have a 50% risk of being efected, so for 4 sons to be effected is 0,5^4*100=6,25%

the risk is hafed each time.
Reply:ok, here goes... To be hemophiliac, both X chromosomes must carry the gene. Daughter is normal phenotype, so she has one normal X and one carrier X ( let's call this one x). Her husband is XY since he is not a hemophiliac. Since his daughters will inherit a normal X from him, none of them will be hemophiliacs, but could be carriers if they inherit mom's x instead of her X. A 50/50 shot. Since the sons will inherit their Y from dad, he is out of the equation and EACH son has a 50/50 shot of inheriting mom's X or x. This can be expressed as x=1/2. Or a one in two chance. Therefore the probability that ALL four sons will be hemophiacs is the product of all of the probabilities. Or ... Total prob= son#1 prob * son#2 prob * son#3 prob * son#4 prob. Or... 1/2*1/2*1/2*1/2.... This equals a 1/16 chance ( or 6.25%) that ALL fours sons will be hemophiliacs ( this is also the probability that all four will NOT be also).

What would be the O-notation for adding a word into an alphabetically sorted linked list?
I would say that it would be O(n) unless the list was also a binary tree which would be more efficient. The insertion even if the list is sorted would possibly have to look at every element in order to determine the insertion position.

Why doesn't everyone join unions then have them campaign for wages to be linked to house price rises?

why doesn't everyone join unions then have them campaign for wages to be linked to house price rises?

Every time house prices rise those without a house/mortage are effectively having a massive wage cut so surely wages should be measured in 'percentage of the average house price'

And all getting togther to force this union wise and restore final salary pensions.

As that way the workers get their fair pay for fair work not bosses in coccaine, prostitues and other luxuries they dont need

Why doesn't everyone join unions then have them campaign for wages to be linked to house price rises?
Union participation is actually declining in this country. Becuase union demands have detroyed many industries in this country and forced them to move manufacturing offshore. Housing has gone up almost 40% in the last five years. If you raised salaries by the same \amount, the cost of goods and services in this coutnry would be s high, no one could afford them and outside goods would be brought (China) for example. This would create more job losses. The union demands for medical and pension benefits far exceed those received by non union workers, tlook at the auto industry. Ford and GM have been hurt dramatically by Japanese mfgs whose employee costs are half of what there's are. Unions served a good purpose in the early part of the 20th centruy. They don't do much now, and there has been much corruption with union heads in the past. Now we have a situation where civil service, police and teacher unions receive such great medical andpension benefits, it driving up property taxes to the point were more and more forclosures are happening. It's a crime. Where I live a police officer makes $105,000 after five years. Reitres after 20 yers does not pay anything for medical and the public has to support them for more years retired than working. It's absurd. Unions are destroying the middle class who have to pay for all this.
Reply:If a company is forced to increase wages, then they have to increase the price of the product to be able to pay the higher wages. This would include the housing industry, so the price of houses would continue to rise with the cost of wages.

If you want more money, get more knowledge and skills and stop thinking that anyone OWES you anything. Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, the two richest men in the US were not born with a silver spoon. They worked for what they got.
Reply:Unions are weak since the Thatcher era, low paid workers would still not be able to obtain a mortgage due to the way banks decide suitability.
Reply:Joey , Joey , won't work . You forget who run the unions , their leaders are no different than the other crooks . Not to mention you will have to pay monthly union dues so where would your savings be ? :))
Reply:Because most people don't believe unions can offer that solution. Wages indexed to a baizarre cost of living indicator would be a disaster; ask Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter
Reply:Because unions have been rendered toothless by global outsourcing.

You'll wind up with your wages indexed to housing prices in China.
Reply:Unions don't work that way..

Prices of housing in US are not really regulated. It's complete market economy. High demand, high prices. Low demand, low prices.....

No free market economy would work that way...

Isn't this socialism? communism? marxism? what ism?
Reply:Because joining a union costs money every month, money people don't have to spare, due to their low wages.

Your question maybe should have been. Why do the British put up with this Sh*t Loony Left Labour Goverment who introduced a "minimum" wage and who keep us all on the poverty line by doing so.
Reply:Unions are not effective in all the matters.
Reply:Because it would bring complete economic collapse. Plus there would be no one to work for because it wouldn't be worht taking the risk of starting your own business because all the risk would be on your shoulders and ther would be no reward left at the end of the day. Any money a company pays you has to be generated by your proprotionate contribution either physically now or in the past or by the risk that you take on behalf of the other people working for the company. You're an idiot if you think that idea will ever work just because you run your own business it doesn't mean you are loaded !!!!!! When was the last time you had a job? If ever

What appears on caller id when using calling card issued by phone co and linked to home phone?

I have a calling card issued by the phone co (Verizon) which is linked to my home phone, so that when I make a long distance call using the card, the charge appears on my phone bill. The calling card number is the same as my home phone number.

If I make a call from some other location (not from my home) using this card, what number will appear on the recipient's caller id? Will my home phone number appear, the phone number of the phone I'm using, or some other number?

Thanks!

What appears on caller id when using calling card issued by phone co and linked to home phone?

You might need to upgrade your account to a business account, meaning you will have to pay a fee on incoming payments.

How did Thomas Hunt Morgan determine that eye color in Drosophilia is an X-linked trait?

How did Thomas Hunt Morgan determine that eye color in Drosophilia is an X-linked trait?

please help me with this question.

this is the answer i put: he crossed a white-eyed male with a red-eyed female and his predictions came out as planned -- the whole F1 generation came out with red eyes.

i got it marked wrong though.

but i still need to know the answer for the test tomorrow.

thanks to everyone that helped me out.

please briefly explain your answer in no more than 2 sentences.

once again thank you!

How did Thomas Hunt Morgan determine that eye color in Drosophilia is an X-linked trait?
The first generation (the F1) produced 1,237 red-eyed offspring and three white-eyed males. The second generation (the F2) produced 2,459 red-eyed females, 1,011 red-eyed males, and 782 white-eyed males.
Reply:He observed psuedodominance, whereby the mutation that was on the X chromosome acted in a dominant fashion in the male who only has one X chromosome. The female has two X chromosomes, so in the F2 generation if the trait is sex-linked and recessive in nature then no females and half the males will have the normal phenotype while half the males will have the recessive white eyed phenotype.

You have malware/spyware/virus on your computer. You can get free programs to remove these nasties. The rule is 1 anti-virus, 1 firewall, and several anti-spyware programs.

All of these are well-respected %26amp; widely-used tools.

Choose 1 anti-virus:

AVG anti-virus

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-pr...

PC Tools AntiVirus

http://www.pctools.com/free-antivirus/

Avira AntiVir

http://www.free-av.com/

Choose 1 firewall:

ZoneAlarm firewall--scroll down %26amp; click "I only want basic ZoneAlarm protection"

http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/c...

Outpost Firewall

http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpostf...

Choose several anti-spyware:

AdAware 2007

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fi...

Spybot Search %26amp; Destroy

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fi...

Windows Defender

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fi...

a-squared Free

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fi...

AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

http://www.grisoft.com/doc/31/us/crp/0?p...

SUPERanti-spyware

http://www.superantispyware.com/

Download, install, UPDATE, run full system scan, quaranteen/delete all that they find.

When finished with the above, you need to remove restore points because the nasties also hide in there where anti-virus %26amp; anti-spyware programs can't reach them. Right-click My Computer, click Properties, click System Restore tab, click Turn Off System Restore On All Drives, click Apply, when that has finished turn it back on to create a new clean restore point.

1) Hijacking

2) Attacking

3) Phishing

4) Sequestering

____ a computer means using some or all of the resources of a computer linked to a public network without the?
I believe that it is Hijacking, though, if this is a homework question, I wouldn't trust this site that much. You can probably find free homework help online in other places.

Phishing is attempting to fraud someone into giving out information on the web.

Sequestering is a biological term. EDIT: (Not really. I based this off of a quick search. As most biological words go, they have a basis in the language. The Free dictionary defines it as: 1. To cause to withdraw into seclusion.

2. To remove or set apart; segregate. See Synonyms at isolate.

3. Law

a. To take temporary possession of (property) as security against legal claims.

b. To requisition and confiscate (enemy property).

Looking at 3, it seems like it could be a good answer, but since the property wasn't yours, then it would be wrong.)

Attacking could be a good choice, but since attacking has the connotation that you would be harming the other's computer, this would not be a good answer.

So pick 1.

Do I have to retype all my "buddies" screen names to my new buddy list on my linked screen name?

I have recently gotten a new screen name and linked it to my old one. To have the same "buddies" on both lists do I need to retype all the ones from my old screen name to my new screen name's buddy list even though they are linked??

Do I have to retype all my "buddies" screen names to my new buddy list on my linked screen name?
You can simply save the buddy list, and then load it on the second screen name. Under "My AIM", select "Save Buddy List..." Sign-off, log in (not linked log in) to your second SN, and then repeat the above, selecting "Load Buddy List..." this time. Then, set up your linked-SNs as you did before.

I have a number of medical symptoms which may or may not be linked.?

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me please, possibly an MD or GP.

I have a number of medical symptoms which may or may not be linked. I've drawn my own conclusions but would appreciate other views

Here are my symptoms:

Regular Anxiety, leading to depression.

Constant build up of ear wax (have to have my ears fully sucked out (not syringed) every six months as my ears get completely blocked

Daily Indigestion and heartburn

Constant state of fatigue (although managable)

Diahorrea 30 mins after Fatty meals, sometimes after any meal.

ABSOLUTELY easy weight gain, and extreme difficulty shedding weight.

Low Motivation. Can have half day feeling good, then just change in a minute, and have a bad rest of the day.

I don't know why, but for some reason I have an inkling this may all be related to my Thryoid perhaps.

Any advice on what checks I should ask for from my Doctor greatly appreciated

Thanks,

I have a number of medical symptoms which may or may not be linked.?
An underactive thyroid would cause constipation rather than diarrhoea and it does not usually cause indigestion. It also would be unlikely to have anything to do with your ear problem. It could however cause weight gain, fatigue, low mood / motivation. With an underactive thyroid though, it would be low mood rather than mood swings from good to bad.

It sounds as though you have a couple of different things going on rather than just one. You need to let your doctor know what is going on and ask him if he feels a thyroid function test would be appropriate (it sounds as though it would) and also to investigate the indigestion and diarrhoea.
Reply:leave out ear wax and cheque this out

http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases...

this fits better
Reply:my first guess would be hypothyroidism (thyroid)...but if you do end up going to the doctor my best guess would say it's either a endocrine misfunction, or a neurological issue, but leading way more towards endocrine.

Christians, please point me to the verses in the bible where Satan is linked with evil?

All I can find is that God is being linked with evil.

See:

And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him. 1 Samuel 16:23

Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech. Judges 9:23

And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand. 1 Samuel 19:9

I don't see Satan described as evil anywhere. Do you think the Devil is evil because God told you, or because some preacher in a church told you?

Christians, please point me to the verses in the bible where Satan is linked with evil?
It's really interesting isn't it? I can never find any pieces of the Bible that link Satan with evil, and yet God does evil quite often.
Reply:See I Peter 5:8
Reply:I think you have a western view of the word evil, which is an English word.

Have you researched the Hebrew meaning of the term that has been translated "evil"? Are there other translations that render it differently?

If Saul was not in harmony with what God wanted him to do, would it be wrong for God to send a troubling or evil spirit to Saul in order for Saul to get in line with God?

Even the term devil and satan have a western flavor that has been colored by popular culture. We use those terms as personal names for the one that used a serpent to trick Eve.

But they mean slanderer and accuser. Hence anyone who slanders God or accuses Him could be termed a devil or a satan. Let's hope none of us have taken that kind of position in opposition to the Creator of all life.
Reply:If you don't get many answers, please post this again on tomorrow. I think it's a good question.

to answer your question; I don't know of any scriptures that speak of lucifer, the devil, or beelzebub being evil.
Reply:Our Father, deliver us from "evil": Mt 6:13

We are delivered from the "law": Rom 7:6

D-evil = law; which things are an "allegory"

The God you referred to is on "high", in plural "heavens".

The only true God is in heaven: "higher than the heavens".

The only true God denotes a false God to find %26amp; compare.

The only man called "Satan" in Bible is Peter.

He's also told when (not if) thou are converted...

Conversion is for all, not some only.

We all are one. So far one proselyte.

God declared the end from the beginning:

And God said: Let there be LIGHT(ONLY).

The GRACE(ONLY) of our Lord J-%26gt;C with you-%26gt;all. Amen.
Reply:stop it with the religious questions, no one is trying to convert you, it's not our fault your so dumb that you can't look up your own answers (which are obviously there)
Reply:See Job; The Hebrew, as Satan means 'adversary', as in "God said to the adversary" (in Hebrew, Sa'tan) I'm Jewish, but I don't think that affects the answer. I don't believe in the concept of the devil per se, being Jewish, but there is a religious groungwork for that Christion theology.
Reply:Satan became the ruler of this world that functions apart from God, and the prince of the power of the air (John 12:31; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 2:2). He is an accuser (Revelation 12:10), a tempter (Matthew 4:3; 1 Thessalonians 3:5), and a deceiver (Genesis 3; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Revelation 20:3). His very name means adversary or “one who opposes.” Another name used for Satan, the devil, means “slanderer.”

Jesus also told us of some of the characteristics of Satan. Christ said he was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him, and that when he speaks he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44).

It is very crucial that Christians realize the reality of Satan in this world and that he prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8).
Reply:Revelation 20

1And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

2And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

3And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
Reply:Lucifer and Satan are different beings Satan is more like THE Prosecution. and says all the bad things you have ever done.

1. if it seems to occur mainly in one sex then it is sex linked...if it is pretty close to an even split, it is proly autosomal

2. if it skips a generation it is most positively recessive...if it shows in every single generation then it is dominant

link the i-1 next link to i+1
Reply:My Java is probably flawed, so you may need to fix it up:

You probably have a function to get the i-th node, so assuming Item is the i-th node:

Item.previous.next = Item.next;

Item.next.previous = Item.previous;

delete(Item);

If you do not have a function to get the i-th node (assuming Item is the start of the list):

Item = Item.next;

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has stated that global warming is linked to the increase?

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has stated that global warming is linked to the increase in greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere. Give a reason for taking this statement and others by the IPCC much more seriously than the views of any individual scientist. (2 marks)

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has stated that global warming is linked to the increase?
Because large groups of people are very good at finding errors by individual members.

And the IPCC is far better able to digest and analyze the huge database around global warming than any single individual.

Science has been a matter of large groups instead of individual brilliance for a long time. The databases tend to be more than any one person can cope with. Mathematics is pretty much the last place for the individual genius.

The same is true in business. Modern management theory emphasizes that groups are capable of far more than any individual member. It's proven fact.

That may not please some people or seem romantic, but it's reality today.
Reply:Their consensus seems to be a consensus of people who share certain common beliefs. They don't let people who are openly sceptical join.

Just this year, they've gone a long way to stopping rediculous claims like the warming between 1910 and 1940 was caused by human activity. This warming along with the medieval warming period appears to be mainly natural, so I wonder why they're so sure that this time it's human made.
Reply:Isn't IPCC statement backed up by the numbers %26amp; scientific data just as any individual scientist who has been working in that field for a long time??
Reply:I can't think of one. The IPCC is not a credible source. They are a political action group.

Does anyone know a movie made before the 80's that can be linked to historical events in the united states?

Hi i wanted to know if anyone knows a good movie that is not boring ( made before the 80's) that can be linked to a historical event in the United States or other countries?

Does anyone know a movie made before the 80's that can be linked to historical events in the united states?
Can you be more specific? Are you asking about movies that were about real-life events? If so, here are a few:

A Night to Remember (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051994/) - made in 1958 about the sinking of the Titanic. It's based by the book of the same title by Walter Lord, who interviewed many of the survivors and also researched newspaper articles of the time. It's a really good movie, much better than "Titanic", in my opinion.

The Hindenburg (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073113/) made in 1975. It's about the Hindenburg disaster (and if you don't know what that was, look it up - it was very cool). It's fictionalized in that it dramatizes the sabotage theory, which has since been disproven, but it tried hard to be accurate outside of that part. But I'd go with A Night to Remember over this one.

Scott of the Antarctic (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0040761/) - made in 1948, it's the story of the Scott expedition in Antarctica. Scott was British, not American, but it was a big deal worldwide. If you're not familiar with the story, there was a lot of antarctic exploration going on in 1912, and many groups were trying to be the first to reach the South Pole. The British and the Norwegians were both trying to make it there first. The Norwegian expedition, headed by Roald Amundsen, made it there first. The British expedition, headed by Sir Robert Falcon Scott, arrived at the pole a few days after the Norwegians. Unfortunately they encountered several problems and never made it back. Their bodies were later found along with their diaries. It's a sad story, and a good movie (but A Night to Remember is my favorite of the bunch).

Have you ever wondered if the Origin of Twinkies was or was not linked to hot dogs?
I knew this because I love Twinkies!! One of my favorite ways to eat Twinkies is with fresh strawberries, cool whip, and chocolate syrup. I make a strawberry short cake out of it. Sooo Good!!!
Reply:NO
Reply:No, not really. Did enjoy this article however. I don't consume either.
Reply:Nope. My mom used to buy Twinkies and when I'd go over there I'd eat a few. Then on her 81st birthday we had Twinkies and ice cream for dessert. I was good.

Whenever we go on a vacation I have to have a box of Twinkies to start off the trip.
Reply:I agree, it is an interesting article. I never gave any thought to how and why Twinkies were developed, but this makes sense. Someone had a keen business mind to make additional use of the shortcake recipe.
Reply:don't eat them.but the different ways to have them are very interesting.
Reply:Kay~ interesting twinkies is my favorite. I don't think I can remember banana being in them.

I can remember a cake called the Banana Flip.
Reply:Yes, very interesting article. I, however, still like the lemon filled or stuffed donuts that just smelling one gains me an extra 15 pounds. Never mind eating one although I would loved to, my cholesterol would rocket to the next galaxy.

Twinkies just never filled me as well as those lemon filled jobs. Now if they started making Twinkies with different fillings I might be tempted to buy a few hundred pounds?(wink)

Is it true that the 1 year child vaccine (MMR) has been linked to autism.?

It is fast approaching my son's first birthday which means he will be getting his 1 year vaccine - MMR. I have heard from too many sources recently that this vaccine has been linked to autism. Is there any truth to this? Does you have any websites that I can research this information from? Only serious answers please.

Is it true that the 1 year child vaccine (MMR) has been linked to autism.?
Check your facts everyone.

Vaccinations still contain Thimerosal. There has been no mandate to get rid of shelved vaccinations, flu shots, etc. that contained Thimerosal and its variants.

Although many pharmaceutical comanies are producing the MMR vaccine without Thimerosal, there are also a whole list (of about 30) variants that are being produced to preserve the life of the vacine.

Ask you doctor to make sure that he/she oders any vaccination/flu shot, etc. without any preservative. Do not trust that when you get a shot that it is preservative free. Check the vial and read the ingrediants.
Reply:I too was concerned about this and discussed it seriously with my doctor. He said there was no scientific proof to relate the two, and it was only linked because around the age of one and onwards was when the signs of autism become more obvious. My 3 children have now had the MMR without any problems. Discuss it with your doctor or immunisation nurse to ease your mind.
Reply:Studies have shown that the MMR vaccine does not cause autism. That rumor started because autism usually shows up about the same time that children get the shot. I have three children that all turned out fine after the got the shot. Don't worry about it. If you are really concerned talk to your childs pediatrician. Good luck!
Reply:I have two grown children who had their MMR and they are fine. Your son will be too. We mothers do worry so much..You can talk to the pediatrician I am sure they will soothe your fears.
Reply:This is only a possiblity in about 20% of the cases. There was a study using home old videos taken at first %26amp; 2nd birthday parties. About 20% of the autistic kids developed normally the first year %26amp; regressed by the 2nd birthday. So it is not impossible that those 20% "got" their autism from the vaccinations. But I think it is unlikely that all of that 20% would have the same cause.

Genetics is the largest factor in autism but it is obviously not the only factor or you would NEVER have cases where one identical twin is autistic %26amp; the other is not. It would be uncommon, though, (20%) for there to be identical twins with one autistic %26amp; the other not.

I would delay the MMR vaccine until 15 to 18 months, or later %26amp; make sure the vaccine has not thimerisol.

RC - the shelved vaccinations containing thimerisol expired in 2003!
Reply:i think it was stated before but no it is not. One year is about where autism is diagnose because you can see the development delays better. Go ahead and get him vaccinated
Reply:Very true.

In fact all vaccines have been liked with various medical problems.

Do NOT get vaccinated.

A vaccinated person is MORE likely to get a disease than a non-vaccinated person. The whole theory of vaccination is flawed. It causes a weakening of the immune system thus making those who are innoculated more susceptible to disease.

There are so many awful side effects to vaccination that it should be considered extremely dangerous.

Just sit back and think for a while.

Is there any sense in injecting a disease directly into your body.

We have been subjected to an awful mind control program to enable the drug manufacturers to make a fortune.

Reply:My son is autistic but he was showing signs of abnormality long before he had the MMR. It's all media hype and there's no truth in it. It's far more likely that autism is inheritated in the genes, as my ex was mildly on the autisic spectrum. Please vaccinate your child - your son can die of measles and that's more worth worrying about.
Reply:there were many research studies on the effect of MMR vaccine on children between 12 and 15 months and autism but the link could not be established. Anyway the new MMR vaccine has no mercury in it like the previous vaccine.

Also it is better to have your child take this vaccine cos if he catches Measles or Mumps or Rubeolla then the effect on him would be worse than Autism

Ap Bio Final - Is a yellow body mutation in fruit flies dominant, recessive, or sex linked dominant/recessive?

For my AP Biology Final my teacher gave each group an active culture of both homozygous wild type (normal) and a active culture of a different homozygous mutant type fruit fly. Our job is to breed them (very carefully) and determine if the trait it dominant/recessive/sex linked. Our group was given a "yellow body type" mutant. I have heard that this is a recessive sex-linked trait, but my teacher also gave this mutation to another group saying that they were different forms of the mutation. Any ideas what it really is? Anyone done this before? Any help is appreciated, just trying to figure out what it should be so i know what to expect.

Is it true that the 1 year child vaccine (MMR) has been linked to autism.?
There is NO connection to any vaccination and Autism.

My son is one of a few genetic (brain tissue) studies that is being done in the US concerning this issue.

The concern is not the vaccination but rather the Thimerosal (and its variants) that is contained to preserve the vaccination.

The vaccine, alone, will have a short shelf life driving the cost of the vaccine up as pharmaceutical companies would need to produce more as any shelved vaccine that lives past its life needs to be thrown away. Thimersol (and it variants) preserve the drug for extended shelf life.

My suggestion is to reach out to your doctor and make sure that any vaccination is ordered as preservative free. But do not take him at his word. take the vaccination and read the ingredients to make sure that the vial has only the vacination.

There are plenty of vacinations / flu shots, etc that still contain mercury additaves today.

There is no concrete proof that mercury is a contributing factor in autism. But if you saw your one year old child drinking the contents of a thermomitor, would you allow them to continue to do so or would you rush him/her to the hospital?
Reply:From the CDC: "Current scientific evidence does not support the hypothesis that measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, or any combination of vaccines, causes the development of autism, including regressive forms of autism. The question about a possible link between MMR vaccine and autism has been extensively reviewed by independent groups of experts in the U.S. including the National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine. These reviews have concluded that the available epidemiologic evidence does not support a causal link between MMR vaccine and autism."

http://www.cdc.gov/nip/vacsafe/concerns/...
Reply:I had this same question when my son started getting vaccines. It's a tough thing for many Mom's to deal with considering all of the negative information out there. My doctor explained to me in length that there really is NO connection. Some people believed that the mercury in some of the vaccines was causing this issue. However the mercury was taken out of the vaccines so I don't know why many people are still saying this is an issue.

Also because our children recieve the vaccination at an age where they will begin to show developmental delays it may seem to some that there is a relation between the two.

I have listed a great resource for you as a link down below. Perhaps many of your questions will be answered there.

Take Care!
Reply:Please vaccinate your child. My son has autism and it was not from a shot. No valid, reliable studies have shown a link at all. Children's vaccine only have a trace amount of thermisol (since 1999) in them. Autism has already effected the structures of the brain before the child is even born.

It is very irresponsible of parents not to vaccinate
Reply:I think is a minority of children that may have been affected. I have two, and both mine had the MMR and they're both fine
Reply:This is only a possiblity in about 20% of the cases. There was a study using home old videos taken at first %26amp; 2nd birthday parties. Reply:yes because of the mercury in it.but my brother is autistic and i dont think it was because of the vaccine.sometimes things like that just happen.and believe me it takes alot physically and emotionally to handle an autistic child.so if your really worried about this vaccine talk to your doctor about it and figure out your options.
Reply:Watching too much TV has been linked to autism, too.

Yes, but you need to pay for it. Funnily enough, this weeks Computer Active magazine has a piece about that very subject.

Basically, it'll cost you far more than just taking it to a tuning shop.
Reply:Simple answer is no,
Reply:the simple answer is yes, but it is more for fault finding do a search for "OBD2 (II)" you can get programmable chips that you can map out your fuel system, but you would be best going to a rolling road and getting some advice. it can make a big difference..
Reply:It is not just software, it is either an aftermarket ECU or a piggyback fuel computer. It is made for tuning purposes, not just diagnostics.

The trick is to fold the paper like an accordian and cut out the doll outline making sure you leave some folds (on both sides)connected:

Make sure whatever you do, only respond to the messages that you receive on your ebay account. Don't respond to messages from ebay through your e-mail account, while some of the e-mails sent by ebay are legit, some are fake and its called phishing. They need you to verify your account, or they say your credit card has expired, or anything of that sort. And they e-mail looks identical to ones that ebay sends out. So be careful on that. Just always do things through your ebay account. Also when you are in your ebay account, make sure that on your account options that you have selected for no 3rd party to be able to have access to your account.

Hope this helps

no, a man will never pass an x linked trait on to his son, a man gives only a y chromosome to a son and the son gets the x chromosome from the mother.

however the father will always pass it on to the daughter, so every daughter would be a carrier.

just because its genetic doesn't mean anything, just that it gets passed on but there are different types of inheritance

and to the person above me since it is x linked the son would only need one because he only has one x, a daughter would still need two..you would be correct if it was an autosomal recessive trait, but this is sex linked.
Reply:Yes, and men are more likely to get sex-related (NOT STDs, theyre different) diseases than girls, because they have one sex chromosome, whereas girls have two=girls need both to be messed up, but men only need one P.S. red-green colorblindness is passed through the sex chromosome
Reply:No, red-green colorblind is on the X chromosome. The man gets it from his mother. He can not pass it to his son, but he can pass it to his daughters.
Reply:its a recessive trait.. so theres a possibilty that his son may be blind
Reply:Yes. It is genetic so it can be passed on.

I'm not sure what you mean by "self defining data structure"

Oh, it is in C++. But I thought maybe that's what you meant, because I wouldn't know what "self-defining data structure" is otherwise.
Reply:Seems like you are making a database software. Like a library or dictionary program. Most likely you will need iostream.h and stdio.h as header then use multidimensional arrays to store the result. as for printing use printf or if you save the data on a file

But if I tell you more you will have to pay/employ me :).

An advice: Think on the data structures before you create the program.

How do I set up a punnett square for sex linked?

The gene is sex-linked (on the X chromosome) and the ebony allele is dominant. You have a normal female and ebony male as the genotype of the parental generation.

How would I set up a F1 Punnett square and how would I find the expected F1 phenotypes (% of females and males) that are normal and ebony?

please explain. Thanks.

How do I set up a punnett square for sex linked?
Okie dokie...

When dealing with sex linked punnett squares, you have to remember that females have two copies of X and of course, males are XY. Also, dont forget that if the trait is sex linked, the male Y wont have any trait on it that you are worrying about.

We know that the female is normal. Since she isnt ebony (and ebony is dominant) we know that both her X chromosomes have the recessive allele (so you would put X with a little e in the top right corner): Xe Xe. The male is ebony so we know that his genotype would be XE Y (X with a big E in the top right corner). SO now cross Xe Xe with XE Y.

You wind up with 2 XE Xe and 2 Xe Y as your resulting genotypes. You should be able to tell phenotypes and % using that. Check the link for some visuals.

How can I find pages in my website that are not linked from another page?

I am trying to find dead pages in my website. A page that isn't linked to from any other page. I have created some stylesheets and have deleted pages but not stylesheets. I can't remember which page has which stylesheet now and wonder if there is an easy way to figure out which .css files are not in use by pages in my website without having to open each individual page.

How can I find pages in my website that are not linked from another page?
If you have Dreamweaver (or download a 30 day fully-functional demo), you can setup your site in there. Once the site is setup (defined), and your cache is created, you can hit delete on each css file, one at a time, and see which files Dreamweaver says are dependent (at this point, DON'T actually delete the css files).

That's the long way, if you don't already have Dreamweaver. Alternatively, you could use a program that allows you to search within multiple files simultaneously, and search for the names of the css files in question.

Hope this helps.

Global warming is a hoax, invented in 1988, that combines old myths including limits to growth, sustainability, the population growth time bomb, the depletion of resources, pollution, anti-Americanism and anti-corporate sentiment and, of all things, fear of an ice age. Those that espoused and supported the old myths have joined forced into a new group called “Environmentalists.”

Most environmentalists have no technical or scientific credentials whatsoever. What they have are major news outlets ready and willing to publicize their every utterance regardless of whether or not they are backed up by scientific proof. Atmospheric science requires highly technical knowledge and skills, not possessed by the vast majority of the so-called environmentalists, who yet feel qualified to demand that human activity subjugate itself to the whims of their new deity, Mother Nature.

Environmentalists claim that the Earth’s atmosphere is getting hotter. They claim that the polar icecaps and glaciers will melt and sea levels will rise over two hundred feet, flooding most coastal cities. They claim that many areas of the Earth will turn into deserts. They make all these claims but cannot substantiate them with real scientific evidence. Parts of the polar icecap and glaciers are melting but other areas of the polar icecaps and glaciers are thickening. The environmentalists base their “proof” of the existence of global warming on the melting areas but are strangely silent, even militant to the point of violence, if anyone mentions the areas that are thickening, and those thickening areas are many.

In the past, there have been many times when the global mean temperatures were warmer, sometimes much warmer and colder, much colder than they are now. Global mean temperatures are cyclical with the seasons but also with other normal cycles, as they have been for the entire history of the Earth. Scientific data from ice cores, tree rings and other indicators of global mean temperatures prove this. Human activity has never been the cause of these global temperature swings as the “global warming” advocates claim. If human activity was the cause, where were the SUVs, the power plants and industries in our historical past? They did not exist. If human activity was not the cause of these global temperature swings, what was?

The energy output of the Sun is far greater in one second than human activity could produce in a million years. The Earth rotates around the Sun. Its orbit is slightly elliptical. The energy reaching the Earth from the Sun varies slightly as the distance from the Sun to the Earth varies due to its elliptical orbit. The Sun activity increases and decreases with fluctuations in the solar flares emitted by the Sun. Differences in these fluctuation rates cause increases and decreases of solar energy hitting the Earth. This causes fluctuations in the global mean temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere.

In 2004, the energy from massive solar flares bombarded the Earth with solar energy. This solar energy caused heating of the Earth’s surface and atmosphere. Most of the energy of the solar flare eruptions dissipated into space. The amounts of energy ejected were massive, much greater than normal. Had the Earth received a full blast of the solar energy from one of the numerous flare eruptions in 2004, the consequences to life on Earth could have been disastrous. The higher than usual amounts of energy that struck the Earth’s atmosphere did have their effects, however, including some heating of the atmosphere.

Then there is the eruption of volcanoes, such as Mt. St. Helens, ejecting dust and ash into the Earth’s atmosphere. The amount of dust and ash in the atmosphere varies the amount of energy that can cause heating or cooling of the Earth’s atmosphere. Volcanoes also eject the kind of compounds that environmentalists call greenhouse gases. A single eruption the size of the Mt. St. Helens eruption released more of these gases, dust and ash into the atmosphere than all such emissions by human activity since the beginning of recorded human history. And there are numerous volcanic eruptions yearly.

The oceans are also a major source of greenhouse gases, as are trees. Trees and other vegetation take in carbon dioxide and give off other gases such as methane, a major greenhouse gas, and a host of other compounds, many of which are also greenhouse gases. Decaying vegetation also gives off methane gas. Studies of smog in the Los Angeles basin indicate that over 90% of the smog is generated by the vegetation in the area. To aid in perpetuating the hoax, however, environmentalists, aided by major news media outlets, censored and suppressed this study.

Studies have shown that greenhouse gases produced by human activity accounts for around 1 percent of the gases in the atmosphere. The total elimination of human generated greenhouse gases would have a negligible effect on Earth’s global mean atmospheric temperatures. The elimination of all U.S. gasoline powered vehicles would reduce worldwide “greenhouse” emissions by less than 0.2%.” What would be the effect on global mean temperatures? None. Doubling of manmade greenhouse emissions above current levels would increase the global mean temperature by one degree Centigrade, which is within the normal range of temperature swings.

It is the fluctuations of the Earth’s orbit around the sun, volcanic eruptions, the emission of gases by oceans and trees, all natural occurrences, that cause rises and declines in global mean temperatures, i.e., “global warming” and “global cooling,” not human activity.

Satellite data taken over the past 25 years indicate no surface or atmospheric warming. If anything there has been a very slight cooling, on the order of 0.01 degree Centigrade.

Recently, astronomers have noticed a thinning of the polar icecaps on Mars.

Is this “global warming, Mars style” and do Martian SUVs, power plants, and industries cause it? Hardly, but the “environmentalists” think so. Some even blame it on us here on Earth.

Global warming IS a hoax. Those claiming that “global warming” is real have an agenda other than saving the planet from human activity.
Reply:all problems can be linked to ignorant people. for example:

democrats gaining in favor (a global problem) can be linked to global warming which can be linked to biased science and then to biased media!

there, 3 steps!

How is the rate of production and employment in the US linked to Inflation and the currency of money?

at the moment the fed has cut the federal fundes rate by 50 basis points. Why did they do this? to help the fiancial markets and housing markets only? The cut is bringing jobs to people-now there is the opportuinity to b uild houses again so this is causing productivity..but...how is this related to INFLATION...How would prodcutivity produce inflation..probably if the price of things stay normal but the salries of people go down...right? and how is this linked to the price of the dollar..in some way this determines the price of the dollar.Explain. thanks

How is the rate of production and employment in the US linked to Inflation and the currency of money?
The other user's answer is exactly right, but let me give you a bit of a different explanation just so you've got a couple of things to bounce around in your head.

First, it's important to understand what inflation really is. Simply, inflation is when it costs more to buy the same thing. Generally, there are 3 reasons why inflation goes up:

(1) The money supply goes up. In other words, there are literally more dollars in circulation. Money is a commodity like any other good -- be it a loaf of bread or a McDonald's hamburger. Therefore, money also obeys the laws of Supply and Demand. When the supply goes up, the value goes down. The more currency there is in the system, the less it is worth. That's one reason why a hamburger that used to cost 5 cents in 1950 now costs $3 -- there are simply many more actual dollars in circulation.

(2) Demand-push inflation. More people are trying to buy the same good, therefore the cost goes up.

(3) Cost-push inflation. The cost of producing a good goes up. For example, say that it costs McDonald's more to buy their hamburger patties. In order to stay profitable, they will raise the price of their hamburgers to absorb that cost.

OK, so you're asking two broad questions: (1) Why did the Fed cut the rate, and what does that actually mean? (2) Why does increased productivity result in inflation?

Let's tackle them one by one:

(1) Why did the Fed cut the rate? What does that mean?

First, it's important to understand what rate the Fed cut, and what the really means. The Feds cut the Federal Funds Rate, which is a short-term borrowing rate. It is literally an overnight lending rate that banks charge each other. It's important since it influences the amount of interest consumers must pay for various types of debt, such as credit cards, home equity lines of credit and auto loans. The Fed did this for two reasons:

(a) By cutting the rate, the expected monthly mortgage payment of people who have Adjustable Rate Mortgages shouldn't go up as money, making it easier for home owners to pay their mortgages. It also makes it easier for people to afford new mortgages, which the Fed is hoping will stimulate buying homes and keep the housing market afloat.

(b) It wanted to increase liquidity -- the ability to change an asset into cash -- in order to help people get out of bad investments. In this case, increasing liquidity helped creditors, banks, and mortgage companies to survive the high default rate we're seeing from sub-prime lenders.

It is important to note that the Fed did NOT cut the rate to spur economic growth -- in fact, that's one of the things they are worried about because too much economic growth can lead to inflation. But we'll come to that in a minute. For right now, here's why cutting rates spurs economic growth:

Cutting rates makes it easier for people to borrow money. This stimulates job growth because companies can now borrow money to expand their business, or people can borrow money to start up a business. This results in more jobs being created.

(2) Rate of Production / Employment Relationship to Inflation:

So what does this have to do with inflation?

Remember, inflation goes up -- meaning the value of the dollar goes down -- when the monetary supply increases. The more dollars that are in circulation, the less each individual dollar is worth because of the laws of Supply and Demand.

The number one cause of inflation in this scenario -- where the Feds have cut the rate -- is that banks will now be able to make more loans to more people. In other words, they are literally taking dollars out of their vaults and giving them to consumers who are now spending them on the street. There are more dollars in circulation. So, the monetary supply has gone up, and the value of the dollar has gone down. Voila! You have inflation.

However, what you're asking about is why the rate of production and employment drive inflation up. Here's the reason, although it is not necessarily applicable to this case:

Assuming that more jobs have been created, there is an increase in economic activity. More people have money, and they want to spend that money. This is called "demand-push inflation," whereby more consumers are demanding goods. In other words, more people want to buy McDonald's hamburgers, so the price goes up. Your dollar used to buy you a hamburger, but now you need more dollars to buy the same hamburger. Voila! Inflation.

I know that's a long answer, but if you're not familiar with the basic economic terms being thrown around, hopefully this should make it a bit easier to understand.
Reply:The increased level of production may eventually cause bottlenecks/shortages in labor or kapital (i.e., natural resources, plant capacity, refining capacity, etc.). These shortages will cause an increase in their prices. This is how excessive monetary stimulus causes inflation.

As for the price of the dollar relative to other currencies, loose monetary policy increases the number of dollars in circulation. Just as with any normal good, when the supply of dollars increases, their value decreases.
