How was Stalin's creation of a totalitarian state linked to his creation of an industrial state?

i need help finding out how Stalin's creation of a totalitarian state is linked with his creation of an industrial state

was it because he needed to have total control and have the fear of the peasants in order for him to create collective farms, five year plans, etc. boosting the Russian economy

How was Stalin's creation of a totalitarian state linked to his creation of an industrial state?
He was trying to take a rather backwards agrarian society and turn it into an industrial power in a very short time, and in order to make the change as quickly as possible he created the totalitarian state. So, for example, the idea behind the collective farms was to force many peasants off the land so they would work in the new factories being built.
Reply:It was simply the czarist doctrine with new packaging. The peasants also known as serfs were not partially emancipated till 1876.
