Is the Virginian Common Wealth (U.S. State) considered, or linked to the British Common Wealth?

Are these two related, or linked in any way?

Thanks

Can't be. No American territory is apart of the British Commonwealth because the Americans seperated through a rebellion.
Reply:There are four states which officially designate themselves commonwealths. Besides Virginia they are Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Kentucky.

They retain no ties to Great Britain, though 3 of them are among the original 13 colonies chartered by the English crown.

The difference is in nomenclature only. They have no powers different from the other 46 and their relationship to the central government is the same.

Commonwealth simply means governed by the consent of the people, in contrast to rule by officials appointed by the crown.
