Can degenerative disc disease be linked to a whiplash injury?

I was in a rear end collision last may and have suffered with severe pain in my neck and arms since. I had an mri scan which showed that a disc was out of place, however when i went back to the consultant he also diagnosed degenerative disc disease. I have never suffered any problems with my neck before, not until I had the accident can the two things be linked

Can degenerative disc disease be linked to a whiplash injury?
degenerative disc can happen from an injury, and can happen due to age also. some people tend to get it younger, especially if an injury and if there's a family history.

ask your doctor!
Reply:Hi,

I have this same problem. I just won a lawsuit because I was in a car accident with no prior back injuries. Now I have degenerative disc disease that was brough on eary due to this car accident. Report It

Reply:I think the collision brought on the symptoms quicker.

The collision caused your disc to be out of place NOT to degenerate.

Before the collision you were just symptomless.

Degeneration happens over time not in an instant.
Reply:it may have caused a sub-lactation to your skeleton it may depend on what your work history is like?
Reply:You doctor may be better able to tie the two together. Hard to say, it could have opened the door.

If you look at your MRI, the discs will look kind of white like a marshmallow. If it's compressed, it'll appear more black.

Best best is to seek qualified medical supervision on this condition to attempt to stop the degeneration or slow it down before it gets worse.
